The council of Lagoa is going to present an event that will bring to the council the music of the ancient Medinas and jewries: The Al-Mutamid Music Festival. This Arab-Andalusian music festival will take place in the chapel of Cultural center of the Convent of S. José, on January 25th,at 9:30 pm.

Directed to the general public, this festival, born in January 2000, intends to honour the king and poet Al-Mutamid, born in Beja in 1040, and who ruled Silves at the beginning of his adolescence. Later, far from the Algarvian landscape, succeeded to his father, the king of Seville, Al-Mutamid, in the lands of Spain. The mostwell-known poet of this time in the region eventually died in Marrakesh in 1095.

It is to honour him that the band Novan Ensemble, native of Iran, will bring to Lagoa a musical proposal to approach the art through the sensual sound that for centuries flooded the palaces and gardens of the vast Persian Empire, and which takes us back to the imaginary of 1001 Nights.

Formed by three Iranian musicians/ instrumentalists who interpret with mere and rigorous folk and classical Persian music, the Novan Ensemble will perform with instruments of enormous visual and sound beauty, such as: tar, Barbat(lute), Kamanche, Tombak and Daf. Babak Kamgar will play tar and Barbat, Pejman Tadayon, Tombak and Daf, and Mohammadreza Amujavadi, Kamanche. A performance not to be missed to start a great weekend.
