The council of Lagoa handed to the Republican National Guard (GNR) a work of art composed of artists from the School of Arts of Lagoa and guided by the artist Patico, with the purpose of marking the International Day for the Elimination of violence against Women, Celebrated on November 25th.

The work was delivered on the 27th day by the councilor of the Social action of the council, Anabela Simão, to the unit commander, Coronel Joaquim Paulo Fernandes Crasto, in the section of Criminal prevention and community policing of the Territorial post of Silves.

The International Day for the Elimination of violence against Women is celebrated every year on 25th November and aims to alert society to violence against women, including cases of sexual abuse or harassment, physical and psychological maltreatment .

This is a topic that deserves more and more reflection in a year when statistics show that domestic violence in Portugal has increased over the last four years. According to the Observatory of murdered Women (OMA), from the beginning of the year to the last November 20th , 24 women were murdered in Portugal, 67% had a relationship of intimacy with the aggressor.
