Learning a technique to combat soil erosion, simple and accessible to all, can be a way of evoking two causes on the same day: science at the service of peace and development and the disappearance of indigenous forests.

As part of the celebrations of world science day at the Service of Peace and Development, proposed by UNESCO on November 10, coincident with The Acorn Day promoted by different entities, the Municipality of Lagoa, Algarve, invites the whole community to pass the Saturday ,November 9th, in family or with friends, at the Nature Interpretation Center of Sítio das Fontes.

"Seed balls in combating erosion" is the title of a free workshop open to all those interested in nature conservation. Soil erosion - for natural reasons or for example forest fires - can be countered with this technique simple and accessible to all. The activity will take place at Sítio das Fontes, Estômbar-Lagoa, during the day of November 9, 2019, from 9:00 am. Prior registration is required and free of charge. It can be done from now on, by email address: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it., or by phone: 351 282 380 456.

Developed by Japanese Masanobu Fukuoka, the technique of clay balls with seeds is an interesting measure in combating erosion and desertification, whether natural or induced after forest fires.

This technique of "seed balls" is distinguished from other techniques because it is easy and replicable, both in informal contexts such as groups of friends or volunteers, or formal as schools, Scouts, among others. "The ease with which seed clay balls are produced enhances a sense of responsibility and ability to intervene collectively, allowing each citizen to help mitigate environmental problems and contribute to effective improvement and effective of our common home: the land!" assure the technicians of the Centre for the Interpretation of nature of the Sitio das Fontes.

"The simple technique of encapsulating clay seeds promotes better conditions for germination and the development of trees and shrubs that, once installed, will help effectively combat soil erosion, and promote biodiversity" add the same specialists.

With this initiative the Municipality of Lagoa intends to promote the approximation of people of all ages to nature, in environments of healthy user-friendly enhanced by the learning of techniques of conservation of landscapes and the planet.
