From August 28th to September 1st, the village of Castro Marim becomes an enchanted village, but recreating, with all the rigor, the uses, customs and experiences of the medieval past.

During five animated days and nights back to the Middle Ages, perhaps the most intriguing time in the history of mankind, the castle and the village become the ideal setting to receive kings and queens, knights of Shining Armor, Fools, Merchants, monks, ladies and noblemen, but also the contradictions of a time simultaneously barbaric and cultured, stage of events and decisions that have remained in history and of magnificent cultural and artistic productions

The horse-riding tournaments, the street theatres, the many animation groups "passa Calles", with jugglers, Fire spitters, Piper, Equilibrists, Swordsmen and contortionists, medieval music, music and oriental-Arabic dance, sacred music , the medieval dances, the exhibition of instruments of torture and punishment, the medieval market and the banquets, are some of the main attractions and bring with them all the magic of this time so fascinating.

The medieval days in Castro Marim have on the main stage the castle, which is the most loyal scenario possible to the Middle Ages. This is where the greatest recreations happen, such as the arts and crafts, where more than 45 professions are represented, and the great performances, such as medieval tournaments on horseback. It is also the castle in Paiol, which welcomes the renewed exposition of instruments of torture and punishment (co-financed by Interreg V-A, supported by the European Union, co-financed by 75% by the FEDER, FOURTOURS project), showing us one of the reasons why the Middle Ages are Regarded as the dark ages.

For the banquet, another of the great attractions of this event, pass all the animation groups of the event. Like what happened in the Middle Ages, in the mysterious light of the torches, diners experience the finest delicacies of the season while enjoying the entertainment performances. An innovative and differentiated experience of the remaining banquet can also be acquired in this edition, "Be King for one Night", a royal table that gathers 10 friends, with the pomp and circumstance of the Middle Ages.

All classes that structure the daily life of the Middle Ages will be represented, clergy, nobility, bourgeoisie and people, and on the same streets and alleys we shall give face to the mythological creatures, the monsters, the demonic and magical creatures, who explained all that was still vague and inaccurate.

The fort of St. Sebastian, another of the stages of this event, will host the military garrison, a historical recreation where you can see various thematic exhibitions, Falconery exhibits, training of squires, tournaments and arts such as horseback riding, fencing and long arch.

Maintaining rigor, this year some issues of safety, health and environmental issues have been reinforced, a work that intends to elevate the medieval days in Castro Marim to an  Eco event. This year, the goal is to achieve a drastic reduction of waste and a maximum reuse of the goods and scenarios of each edition. The clay cups will be used, as since almost the genesis of the medieval ones, and there is an effective reduction of paper spending in the production of all graphic materials.

Because it is a time that is transversal to a series of cultures, the historical connection of coffee to the medieval period is consolidated this year, and is now present throughout the event, in a closer partnership with the "Delta Cafés".

The ticket sales  of the medieval days in Castro Marim open at 3pm, while the activities and animation of the event take off at 5pm and close at 00:00. During the event, organized by the City Council of Castro Marim, the office of Support to the citizen (GAM) will serve as a post of information and support.
